Susurrations, Part 4

*
Chakotay woke up alone in a sticky bed. He yawned and wondered why Tom had left. Checking the time, he found it was nearly 0500. Getting up to use the head, he rolled over more than a few wet spots and smiled.
*
He peed and decided to change the sheets later. Right now, all he wanted was more sleep. As he got into bed again and arranged himself to lie on a dry area of the mattress, he began to drift off and recalled all the things he and Tom had forgotten to talk about. He looked forward to tackling those little mysteries, along with weightier issues. Perhaps they could discuss them at breakfast....

*
Tom woke up when he slid down into the rapidly cooling water and it shot up his nose as he tried to breathe. Coughing and shaking his head, he got out of the tub and dried himself. His ass felt a little better but not much.
*
He felt like an idiot for falling asleep in the bathtub. Checking the time, he discovered it was almost 0530. Great, he thought, I have another hour to sleep.
*
Crawling into his bed, he instructed the computer to wake him at 0630. Anticipating a little more down-time in order to recuperate from his latest nocturnal exertions, he was not pleased when his door chime rang--and kept on ringing.
*
'Fuck! I'll kill whoever it is,' he decided as he made his way into the living area. Standing there, closing his hastily donned robe, he called for lights and growled, "Come in."
*
A nearly naked, upset and achingly tumescent Harry Kim practically fell through Tom's front door. He stumbled over to the sofa, dropped the blanket that had been loosely draped over him and pleaded, "Help me. Oh god, Tom, get it off me, please?"
*
Tom's eyes bulged. God, the situation was far worse than Neelix's information had led him to believe. He moved toward his friend and sighed. Harry was still a little green in some ways....
*
Tom inspected his friend's attire and thought he looked like a trussed up piece of meat ready to be roasted. Lengths of leather wound around him outlining various groups of muscles.
*
"Okay, Harry. Just relax and turn your back to me." Tom began to undo the multitude of buckles and straps that had left deep indentations on his friend's golden skin. He winced in sympathy at the few really reddened areas and planned on getting out his official, medic-issue dermal regenerator while he and Harry had a little talk.
*
Harry was shaking and twitching now and then under Tom's fingers. Once the 'outfit' had been loosened sufficiently, Harry shrugged off the top half and went to work on freeing his cock and balls.
*
Tom stood back once all the pieces of the apparatus fell to the floor and gestured Harry toward the bathroom. "Go and take care of things."
*
Harry just nodded and fled into the sanctuary Tom offered him.
*
Picking up the heavy pile of leather and metal, Tom sat on the couch and tried to untangle it. Jeez, this must have cost an awful lot to replicate, he thought, as he checked out the full body harness with built-in ball spreader and cock glove, complete with silk lacings.
*
Metal clips and clamps hung from strategic locations and he wondered if Harry might need to go to Sickbay after all. He shifted the item in his hands and noticed there were some rough edges here and there. Harry would definitely need the regenerator. He stood up and retrieved it then went to sit on his bed and waited for his buddy to reappear.
*
A minute or two later, Harry came out of the bathroom, clad in a towel and looking like he wished the nearest nebula would swallow him whole. "Don't say it," he muttered.
*
Tom grinned. "Don't say what?" He patted the bed and continued, "Harry, I'm not saying a thing except come over here and let's get you fixed up." He reached over and yanked the towel off, then threw it through the doorway to the bathroom.
*
Warily, Harry complied and Tom watched him settle gingerly on his stomach in the middle of the bed. Once he began running the regenerator over his friend, he said, "I gotta tell you, Har, you're going about this all wrong."
*
"I thought you weren't going to say anything."
*
Moving down to treat the plump, somewhat abused-looking buttocks, Tom said gently, "I lied. I care about you. You're my best friend but, I don't think you've got what it takes to be their living sex toy." He saw Harry blush, all over.
*
"What do you mean, 'their' sex toy?" Harry asked in a small voice.
*
Running a soothing hand over the instantly tense muscles in Harry's back, Tom replied, "I know the Delaney sisters have got you in their clutches. You just don't know how to handle them."
*
Harry turned over and looked at him incredulously. "Just how do you know that? Does anyone else know?"
*
Tom smiled and said, "Relax. I'm the only one who has put it all together. But if you keep on letting them walk all over you, the entire crew will find out in record time." Taking advantage of his friend's new position, he started healing the abrasions on Harry's chest.
*
Harry squeezed his eyes shut and mumbled, "I am so embarrassed."
*
"Why? Everybody makes mistakes. That's how you learn. That, and coming to an expert like me for advice, of course," Tom replied smugly.
*
Harry grimaced and snapped, "O, great expert, what should I do now?"
*
Tom waited until Harry opened his eyes again then said, "You should come and see me after shift when we can get you some proper clothing."
*
"Huh? What do you mean?" Harry sat up and looked at Tom curiously.
*
Waving the regenerator as if it were a magic wand, he lowered his voice dramatically and murmured, "Trust me, Harry. Think tall, shiny black boots and a riding crop."
*
Harry just stared at him for a long moment, then a huge, happy smile appeared on his face.

*
Chakotay walked into the mess hall not knowing what to expect. He saw the Captain out of the corner of his eye as she motioned for him to join her at her private table in a secluded corner. He nodded and went to obtain breakfast, such as it was.
*
Placing a cup of tea on his tray, he turned around and spotted Torres staring at him from a distance. Dismissing B'Elanna's curiosity with a glance, he approached Janeway and sat down across from her.
*
Kathryn gave him the smug smile that rankled at times and said, "I see you have embarked on a new and dangerous personal mission."
*
Chakotay sat up straight, hearing her proprietary tone and inquired, "And what might that be?"
*
"The taming of Tom Paris," she answered equitably. "You do know what you're letting yourself in for, don't you?"
*
He wondered why she was so interested and said, "Maybe. Why don't you enlighten me, just in case I'm wrong." He picked up his cup of tea and hid his frown while he drank.
*
She lifted an eyebrow at his tone of voice and replied faux-innocently, "I'm not your enemy here, Chakotay. I just want you to be aware that you may have bitten off more than you can chew."
*
Setting his tea aside, he asked evenly, "What makes you think I don't know that?"
*
Unperturbed, she gazed at him speculatively and said with a superior tone, "You don't understand Tom as I do. He is capable of doing just about anything, even disobeying direct orders. Just think of what he could do to your heart."
*
Chakotay reined in his anger over her assumptions and gathered his dishes together on the tray. Rising, he stated quietly, "I think you have forgotten the fact that he served under me once before, back when we were *both* Maquis."
*
Ignoring her disgruntled expression, he picked up his tray and walked over to the recycler. He did not need or want her advice on how to handle Tom.
*
As Chakotay left the mess hall, he noticed Neelix scurrying over to the Captain's table. He hoped their chef would be treated better than he had been and wondered why the Captain had been such a bitch about everything.

*
Shooing a grateful Harry out of his quarters in borrowed clothing, Tom smiled reassuringly. Once the doors closed, he headed back to the bedroom and checked the time. It was much later than he thought and he quickly donned his uniform, intent on getting some breakfast before heading to the bridge.
*
He and Harry had spoken for quite a while longer than he realized. As he hurried down the corridor to the mess hall, he wondered if he would be in time to catch up with Chakotay. There was so much he wanted to tell him but so far they hadn't had the time to talk.
*
Slowing his approach, he entered the mess hall and recalled how he had left it only the night before. Trying to behave as if nothing untoward had happened, he nonchalantly glanced around the room as he placed some food on his tray.
*
A blue steel gaze met his briefly as the Captain rose, walked away from her table with deliberately measured steps and deposited her tray in the recycler. She then stalked out of the room without a backward glance, ignoring him completely.
*
Tom felt like he'd been slapped.
*
Still in shock, he turned his attention to the food in front of him and suddenly he didn't feel hungry any more. He set the tray on the counter in front of Neelix and moved toward the door. But, before he could take another step, a vise-like grip landed on his shoulder and B'Elanna spun him around.
*
"Where do you think you're going?" she said.
*
"Uh," Tom looked around nervously to see if Tuvok was anywhere nearby. Finding he was safe from Vulcan possessiveness, he ventured, "Nowhere?"
*
"That's right. You aren't going anywhere until we have a little chat." Baring her teeth in a parody of a smile, she hauled him away and pushed him into a chair by the wall.
*
Pulling a nearby table in front of him, thereby trapping him in place, she grabbed another chair and sat down across from him, saying, "So, Tom, tell me why Chakotay kissed you last night, why my new husband upset you *and* why the Captain pissed off Chakotay this morning."
*
Tom gulped and latched onto her last statement. A moment later, his priorities slammed into place and he leaned forward prepared to do verbal battle. Matching her intensity, he demanded, "Explain what you mean about the Captain and Chakotay."
*
Her eyes narrowed and Tom saw something change within them. He sat back, relaxing his guard a bit and waited for her to tell him the truth--about everything. Only then would he answer her questions.
*

*
Chakotay strode down the corridor and into his office wishing he had a door to slam. Where did Kathryn get off telling him what to do about his love life? What the hell was her problem? Did she want Tom for herself?
*
Spinning his chair around violently, he calmed down and caught it with one hand then lowered himself into it. Running his hands over his face, he took deep breaths and tried to think clearly.
*
It appeared that all sorts of people were having strange reactions to him and Tom being together. He had to wonder again why Tom had left him in the middle of the night. Did the man get what he wanted? Was he finished with him now?
*
Frowning, he tried to concentrate on his duty but couldn't help thinking about how good the sex had been. He'd enjoyed it--how could he not--but he missed the emotional connection. They hadn't talked about it, about the long-term possibilities and that bothered him.
*
Musing on all of the complexities that had recently invaded his life, he sighed heavily and picked up the nearest padd which held more detailed information on recent replicator activity. If he could do anything to get back into the Captain's good graces, perhaps it would be to solve this mystery.
*

*
Tom spent the morning acutely aware of the Captain's silent disapproval and disappointment being aimed at him. He didn't like it. It reminded him too much of his father. To make matters worse, Chakotay didn't appear at all on the bridge and neither did Harry.
*
He was confused. B'Elanna had only given him her impressions of what had happened before he arrived this morning but he trusted her judgement when it came to reading Chakotay. Frowning, he made a tiny course correction and wondered why the Captain was suddenly being a snow queen, ice water dripping from her every word to him. Maybe she wanted Chakotay for herself...nah, if she did, she would have done something about it years ago.
*
Before he could continue his present train of thought, he was dismissed for lunch. Turning the conn over to his replacement, he headed to the mess hall hoping Chakotay would show up there.
*
Hurrying so he could grab a table with a view of the door, he scanned the room quickly and told Neelix they would have to talk later, dashing the Talaxian's hopes of more free advice. Tom sat down, tensely waiting and absently munching lunch. Chakotay did not make an appearance but Harry did.
*
Kim grabbed a tray, piled food on it and smoothly slid into Tom's direct line of sight. "I want to talk to you," Harry stated.
*
Distracted, Tom replied, "Okay. What's up?" He blinked and continued, "Oh yeah, why aren't you on the bridge today?"
*
Harry looked at him and frowned slightly. "I'm off duty."
*
"Oh. Okay. That's good, Harry. You need the rest, in my opinion." Tom grinned absent-mindedly.
*
Setting aside his utensils, Harry inquired evenly, "So when were you going to tell me?"
*
Tom kept trying to peer around his best friend whenever the doors to the mess hall opened. "Hmm? Tell you what?" He stuffed another bite of lunch into his mouth and washed it down with some water.
*
"About you and Chakotay." Harry then attacked his lunch with gusto. Sawing through the entree, he remarked, "I heard about your dinner together last night."
*
Finishing the last lump of his meal, Tom shifted his position so that he wouldn't have to keep trying to look through his best friend. He shoved his tray aside and sipped at his water. Finally focusing his attention on Harry, he inquired, "Just what did you hear?"
*
Kim smiled and replied, "Enough to make me wonder if you've lost your mind."
*
He stared at Harry incomprehensibly for a moment then leaped to his feet as soon as Chakotay entered the room. Without explanation, he gave his pal a pat on the shoulder and went over to greet his new lover.
*

*
"Hi." Tom practically skidded to a stop in front of Chakotay, taking him by surprise.
*
Chakotay glanced around quickly and noticed Harry Kim staring at the two of them with a very interested look on his face. He wondered what had brought that about, but before he could complete the thought, Tom wrapped himself around Chakotay's body and kissed him.
*
He felt soft lips, strong arms and an aching familiarity that brought back the activities of the night before with stark clarity. A certain hesitancy on Tom's part made itself apparent as a tongue tip dared to sneak out with lightning speed only long enough to make itself known before retreating again.
*
Unwinding himself slowly and carefully from Tom's embrace, he asked quietly, "What was that for?"
*
Blue eyes stared at him openly, clearly radiating the intentions of the soul behind them as Tom replied seriously, "To lay your doubts to rest."
*
"My doubts?" Chakotay inquired while allowing his hands to explore Tom's face gently. Now he didn't know what to think. How had Tom known about his reservations regarding the two of them being together?
*
Tom only smiled at him and took a half-step forward, letting another member of the crew pass behind them. They were even closer together than before and just as Tom bent to whisper in his ear, the doors opened and Janeway walked in.
