Susurrations, Part 2

By Britta

*
Chakotay woke up early and felt his face. His nose was still slightly sore and he surmised that was what he'd hit the floor with last night. He yawned and rolled over onto his side and thought about things.
*
Tom had surprised him yet again by leaving when he did. He'd expected an all out assault but didn't get it. Instead, Tom had given him some space, and time as well. He smiled at the recollection of the few liberties Tom had taken: holding his hand in Sickbay and kissing him on the cheek right before he left last night.
*
It appeared that the pilot had some self-control after all. Perhaps this thing, whatever it was, that Tom was interested in initiating between them could be more than sexual. He hoped so. Yawning, he rose and prepared to begin his day.
*
Once showered and dressed, he headed for the mess hall to get breakfast. When he arrived, he noted the Captain sitting in the far corner, sipping coffee and staring at a padd.
*
He grabbed a cup of tea, some toast and fruit, and went to join her. "Mind if I sit down?" he asked.
*
She looked up at him and blinked. "No. Please do."
*
They both had a view of the serving counter and occasionally looked toward it to see who had arrived but other than that, they ate in silence.
*
Chakotay watched Janeway as she absently munched on a roll and downed more and more coffee. Twice, Neelix had rushed over to refill her cup but she was so engrossed in whatever the padd held, she didn't seem to notice.
*
At one point, he saw Ensign Kim enter the room and somewhat stiffly walk over to the table nearest the counter. He wondered why Harry was moving like that. Perhaps he had pulled a muscle or something.
*
A few seconds later, Paris arrived and, shooting curious glances in Kim's direction, piled his plate full of food. But before he could sit down, he was targeted by Neelix who appeared to want to bend his ear for a few moments.
*
Chakotay chewed and sipped and watched the drama play out before him and wondered what was going on. Finally, he saw Tom nod at Neelix and scoot over to sit down at Kim's table so quickly that the Ensign couldn't escape.
*
Before he could see what happened next, the Captain nudged his arm and said, "Take a look at this." The padd was shoved in front of him and he tried to turn his attention to work.

*
Tom settled himself beside Harry and looked his best friend over carefully. He didn't like what he saw. Harry had bloodshot eyes and evinced very little of the energy he usually associated with the young man.
*
Harry's whole demeanor had changed and he wondered why. Deciding to go ahead and pry, he inquired, "So, Harry, tell me why you look like something a sehlat dragged in."
*
Dark brown, almond-shaped eyes stared at him and a voice, quieter than usual, replied evenly, "I just stayed up too late last night."
*
"Working on a secret project or something?"
*
Harry replied, "I guess you could say that."
*
"Okay. I understand," Tom grinned.
*
Harry glanced over at him suspiciously but remained silent.
*
Tom's mind kicked into high gear and he wondered what Harry really meant. He ate more of his breakfast and bided his time. He would find out the truth no matter what; even if only to protect his best friend from himself.
*
He had a funny feeling that there was a woman involved; if Harry's fatigue was anything to go by. Hmm. Some judicious investigation was called for.
*
Thinking back to all the things Neelix had asked of him, he figured the Talaxian owed him a favor or two. Perhaps it was time to make a deal.
*
He watched as Harry finished his breakfast and rose to take his tray away. Grabbing his buddy's arm, he said quietly, "Don't let her wear you out."
*
At Harry's shocked expression, he just grinned and thought, 'direct hit.' He watched his friend leave the mess hall and resolved to speak to Neelix as soon as he was done with his meal.
*

*
Chakotay stared at the padd and wondered what the Captain was referring to, this time. He kept being distracted by the flashes of activity taking place elsewhere in the mess hall.
*
Once Ensign Kim had left and he saw Tom sitting across the room with a very self-satisfied grin on his face, he lost his concentration completely. He turned to Janeway and asked, "Can we go over this elsewhere?"
*
She raised her eyebrows and glanced around the room quickly, taking in everything pertinent. "Of course. Finish your breakfast and meet me in my Ready Room." With that, she left.
*
Relieved to see her go, Chakotay strove to put his thoughts in order. As he did, Tom went over to Neelix and spoke to him for a moment.
*
Then, Tom approached him, looked around and sat down to his left. "Good morning." Tom smiled at him.
*
"Good morning to you, too."
*
"Feeling better?"
*
"Yes."
*
"I'm glad to hear that." Tom leaned a little closer and lowered his voice. "Will you have dinner with me tonight?"
*
Chakotay grinned at Tom's audacity and answered, "Yes. But only if you tell me what was going on earlier between you and Neelix and Harry."
*
Tom leaned back in his chair and said, "I can only tell you so much. Some of it I have been sworn to secrecy over. Will that do?"
*
Smiling, Chakotay nodded and swallowed more of his tea. "Yes. That will do nicely. I sense there are mysteries afoot."
*
"Hmm. That there are, but I could say the same to you. What were you and the Captain so engrossed in?"
*
A hint of something colored Tom's voice and he wondered what it was. He finished his tea and rose, gathering his breakfast dishes. "To tell you the truth, I'm not quite sure. I have to go and meet with her right now. If it's something I can share with you, I'll tell you at dinner."
*
Tom stood up and replaced their chairs then followed him closely as he dumped his tray full of dishes. Once they left the mess hall, Tom looked around and seeing that the coast was clear, kissed him on the lips just once and gently at that. Then Tom whispered in his ear, "I'm looking forward to our conversation."
*
Chakotay shivered when Tom stepped away from him and they moved toward the turbolift. A thought crossed his mind and it was not a very nice one.
*

*
Tom spent the morning flying the ship and wondering what the Captain had to discuss with Chakotay that would keep them both off the bridge for so long. He did admit that there was no pressing need for either of them to be there, but still, he wasn't happy about Chakotay's prolonged absence.
*
The possibility that he could get his hands, and other parts of his body, on the Commander was tantalizing. The concept was too new for him to treat lightly. He didn't believe it was quite real, and so, he wanted the man to be near him; never out of his sight until he knew where they stood.
*
Dinner seemed eons away.
*
He sighed and forcibly turned his attention to Harry. Glancing over at his best friend, he wondered if he should tell him what was going on in his own life. Noting the number of yawns Harry tried to squelch during the course of the morning, he decided to wait until he found out just what Harry was up to in his spare time.
*
His mind went back to his talks with Neelix at breakfast and he found himself pondering the amount of secrets everyone seemed to have. Neelix had asked him for advice on how to proceed with his lady love since, at this point, she didn't know he existed.
*
Tom had to wonder how anyone could fall in love with someone from afar. He figured that at the very least, having sex with another person was a necessary part of the 'falling in love' process. But, then again, he wasn't certain; falling in lust was a much more familiar phenomenon, to him anyway.
*
Janeway and Chakotay finally came back to the bridge, but just before he could feel relief set in, they broke for lunch. Replacements arrived and Tom found himself stuffed into the turbolift with Harry and Tuvok.
*
Tuvok had been uneasy around him ever since the debacle of his and B'Elanna's relationship. He wished he could explain what a favor Tuvok had done him by taking her off his hands, but he was afraid to mention it in the off chance that once he knew then she would know and that would not be a good idea. Damn those Vulcan mind-link things....
*
Turning his thoughts to food, they exited the turbolift and entered the mess hall. Harry immediately grabbed not one, but two, cups of coffee and staked himself a claim to a table in a far-off corner. Tom took his time deliberately and slowly gathered his lunch together. He wanted to see just who would be joining Harry, since it appeared that his buddy was setting a table for two.
*
Dawdling as long as possible, Tom's plan fell flat. He watched as Harry retrieved his own lunch and set both cups of coffee squarely in front of him. Just before he was going to join the Ensign, Neelix caught up to him.
*
"Uh, Tom? Could I sit with you for a minute?"
*
Sighing, he answered, "Sure, Neelix, but where?" Looking around, he saw that the place was nearly full.
*
The Talaxian steered him over to another corner of the mess hall and looked around quickly then swiped the 'Reserved' sign off the top of a small table for two. "Right here. I know the Captain won't arrive for about an hour, so it's all right if we use her table."
*
"Her table? I didn't know she had one."
*
Affronted, Neelix looked at him and said, "Of course she does. This used to be her private dining room! Don't you remember?"
*
Tom realized then just how long they'd all been away from the Alpha Quadrant. That he had forgotten what this room used to be scared him a little. "I'm sorry, Neelix. You're right." He sat down and with renewed respect for their Morale Officer, asked, "So what did you want to talk to me about?"
*
As Tom ate, Neelix spilled his guts. When lunch was done, Tom reckoned he had a whole lot more information than he had earlier.
*

*
Janeway stood up as the 'lift doors opened and asked, "Ready for lunch?"
*
Chakotay frowned briefly, then said, "Can I take a raincheck? I need to see to something in my quarters."
*
"No problem. Just be back here in an hour."
*
"Yes, Captain." He watched as she left the bridge and wished he had enough time to both eat and meditate. Sighing, he waited for the turbolift to return.
*
Once it did, he went to his cabin and replicated lunch. He had a lot to think about. The Captain had spotted something odd in the recent use patterns of the replicators.
*
The report she'd been perusing wasn't detailed enough to give specifics and so it fell to him to find out what was going on. Add to that fact the curious conversations he'd been seeing from a distance, and that Tom still 'wanted' him and, well hell, he didn't know quite what to think.
*
His own private network of information gatherers had come up with little more than whisperings of oddities. Of course, he hadn't yet had the time to explore all of the avenues, but he still felt something was off kilter. Refusing to contemplate it any longer, he finished his lunch and turned his mind toward Tom.
*
Voyager's senior pilot wanted to have sex with him; that much he knew for sure. Sipping his water, he looked out at the stars and let his mind drift. He imagined Paris in a variety of ways: from tense and concentrating on his flying skills to relaxed and happy on the beach in the resort. Each and every image he conjured up was different. Which one was the real Tom?
*
Chakotay could picture him angry, defiant, resigned, excited, and even triumphant, for one reason or another, but he did not know what the man looked like when he was sexually satiated. Aroused? Yes, he'd seen that a month ago and even at other times before then. But to see him replete, wrung out, and to know he had been the cause, that was something he would like to see very much.
*
His thoughts wandered even further and all the fantasies he'd ever had about Tom came into play. What would it be like to lick the smirk off the younger man's face? What would it be like to suck him so hard he disintegrated into a pile of mush? How ultimately satisfying would it be to look down and see Tom Paris on his knees before him, pretty pink mouth open, ready and willing to suck his cock?
*
Chakotay admitted to himself that there were still elements of their old hostility hovering in his mind. He wasn't too sanguine about the outcome either; he and Tom had rarely seen eye to eye. What he wanted to do more than anything was bend the blond over some piece of furniture and fuck him into total submission. He'd wanted to do that for years, he realized.
*
Breathing heavily at that thought, Chakotay drank the last of his water and cleaned up the dishes from his lunch. Time to go back to the bridge and stare at Tom. If only the pilot knew what was going through his mind--then perhaps their dinner date would be more volatile than either man expected.
*

*
Frowning, Tom gave most of his mind over to the problematic situation that Neelix had set before him and he wished now that he didn't know any of the details.
*
He sat at the conn, wrapped in thought and was glad when his own personal object of lust returned to the bridge. Now he had something much more pleasant to contemplate.
*
Naughty thoughts and images floated through his mind as he flew Voyager. Happy with the response he gotten from Chakotay so far, he wondered what his chances were of actually getting laid after dinner. God, it had been almost forever since he'd been with someone, especially someone he had wanted for so long; someone as hot and alluring as their First Officer.
*
His mental movies kept him occupied until his shift was over and then he went to his quarters determined to emerge as Tom Paris, irresistible sex object. He showered and changed into what he hoped was a sexy outfit of tight, black pants topped off with a nearly translucent, long-sleeved and flowing off-white shirt. Turning before the mirror, he gazed at his reflection and thought if he could get the Commander into bed, then the battle would be at least half won.
*
Finally, satisfied with his appearance, he contacted his target. "Paris to Chakotay."
*
"Chakotay here."
*
"Are you ready to eat something?" Tom inquired as he grinned at himself in the mirror.
*
"That all depends on what you have in mind, Lieutenant."
*
He could hear the smile in the Commander's voice. Was he going to play hard to get? "Well, I thought we agreed on dinner, but, if you have a better plan, I'm all ears."
*
"I have a few thoughts, but since this was your idea, it's your show. Oh, and I would like to eat real food at some point in the near future."
*
Tom quickly checked the status of his rations and offered, "Well, do you want to come over to my place or meet in the mess hall?"
*
A long pause ensued. "Chakotay? Are you still there?"
*
"Yes. Sorry, Tom. I think the mess hall is the best choice for now. Can we meet there?"
*
"Sure thing. I'm on my way. Paris out."
*
Tom had to wonder why Chakotay wanted to go to the mess hall. Didn't he trust him to behave in private? Hmm, perhaps there was something else going on that he wasn't aware of, yet. Sighing with the hope that he would get to the bottom of this...and maybe the bottom of other things, he left his quarters in good spirits.
*
That didn't last long. As he entered the turbolift, he was dismayed to see both B'Elanna and Tuvok already inside. He couldn't avoid them forever but he sure wished now wasn't the time to face them.
*
Torres looked him up and down critically then remarked, "You're looking pretty spiffy tonight, Tom. Any particular reason why?" She reached out to touch his shirt but Tuvok stayed her hand. She frowned at her mate but let his action go without verbal comment.
*
Tuvok glared at him pointedly and he gulped, feeling as if anything he said would be wrong. Backing away from them both, he shook his head. "No."
*
Once the 'lift doors opened on the correct deck, Tom scooted out fast. He absently smoothed the front of his shirt and entered the mess hall trying to look nonchalant and hide his internal shakiness. He was so focused on looking for Chakotay that he was unaware the Vulcan/Klingon couple were right behind him.
*
Tom scanned the room and saw only one unoccupied table, which happened to be right smack in the middle of all the other tables. Sighing to himself, he went over and sat down anyway, knowing that he and Chakotay would be the center-stage floor show for everyone present, including the Captain.
*
Wishing he'd had a drink or two, he realized that now all he could do was wait for his date to show up and hope for the best. Just then the doors opened and Chakotay strode into the mess hall like he owned the place.
*
He paused and scanned the room, giving Tom time to get over the shock of seeing him dressed in black from head to toe. Tom rose as he came over to the table, and not knowing what to say, he held out his hand.
*
Chakotay took it and pulled him close, then kissed him hard right in front of god and everybody.
