Susurrations, Part 15

*

"...and did I mention that her Borg strength extends to her vaginal muscles as well?" The Doctor peered off to his left with a smile on his face.
*
Tom just nodded again. He couldn't think of anything to say that he hadn't said already. The Doctor went on to add, "It's a good thing Seven came to me first. Until she can control herself, she shouldn't attempt intercourse with anyone else aboard ship; she might have seriously damaged an organic penis."
*
Now thoroughly irritated by the morning's sole topic of discussion, Tom was glad when Chakotay came into Sickbay and rescued him, even though it was only to change his venue of duty. He'd had enough of the Doctor's clinical descriptions of Seven's physical responses to last him a lifetime.
*
He'd been asked to trade sexual secrets with a hologram. As if that weren't enough, he was thanked profusely for being responsible for said hologram's first sexual experience with a flesh, blood, and metal being. And that was more than Tom could tolerate--especially so soon after breakfast.
*
At first it had been mildly amusing, but as the morning wore on, it became boring and he was frustrated because there seemed no way to stop it. Now, his head was spinning from the Doctor's repeated attempts at finding common sexual ground from which they could converse.
*
He sighed with intense relief when Chakotay told their physician that Tom was being immediately reassigned for the afternoon. Assuming they were going to work on the replicator mystery, he allowed Chakotay to lead him out into the corridor.
*
Chakotay peered at him closely and laid a hand on his shoulder asking, "Are you all right? You look a bit flushed. Do you need to go back in there?"
*
"God, NO! Just get me away from him, okay?" Tom snapped. "After the last few hours I need a break, or a stiff drink, or both."
*
"What happened, Tom?" Chakotay was serenity personified walking with Tom down the corridor toward the turbolift.
*
Tom stopped short of the 'lift and said in an agitated tone, "I'm not cut out to counsel a hologram who has just lost his virginity to an ex-Borg." He saw Chakotay's lips twitch then smile, which didn't improve his mood at all.

++++

Chakotay pulled Tom into the turbolift and called out his own deck. By the time they reached his cabin, his lover had calmed somewhat. Chakotay had to wonder what the Doctor had said to vex Tom so much. Perhaps now wasn't the best time to proceed with his plan.
*
He watched as Tom paced around the living room and decided to replicate lunch for them both. After all, he had an unlimited supply of rations, he might as well use them. A jab of his conscience was easily deflected by the rationale that if Tom wasn't in any condition to help him answer the questionnaire, then their investigation would go nowhere fast.
*
"It's time for lunch, Tom. What would you like to eat?" Chakotay stood behind his lover and rubbed his shoulders companionably.
*
Tom turned to him and stated flatly, "Tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich."
*
Chakotay smiled and replied, "All right. Major comfort food coming right up." He leaned over and gave Tom a kiss.
*
The other man's arms wrapped around him so tightly he couldn't get away. Tom clung to him and he clung back waiting until his lover felt inclined to let him go. He enjoyed holding Tom and being held by him, whether or not it was sexual in nature. This time it was not, but it filled another need they both had, and it felt good.
*
Allowing himself to put duty aside for a moment, Chakotay reflected on how comforting it was to be held by someone you cared about and who cared for you in return. He knew Tom had been irked by the Doctor's revelations, whatever they were, but he was also struck by the surcease of his own loneliness that this embrace brought him.
*
He liked the feeling that he was taking care of someone who needed him. He also hoped that if and when he needed to be cared for that Tom would be there. Not that he had many doubts about it; it just seemed like forever since he could safely lay aside the burden of command and let go of all his responsibilities.
*
Tom sighed heavily and kissed him. "Thanks, Chakotay." Letting his arms fall away, he continued, "I'm ready to eat lunch now."
*
Chakotay moved away from Tom and ordered their food. He felt no need for questions or explanations at this point. When their meal was ready, he motioned for Tom to join him at the table.
*
They ate quietly sharing a comfortable silence. Chakotay finished his salad first and sat watching Tom munch his sandwich, occasionally dipping it into the red soup. He felt very peaceful and wondered if Tom did, too. Once Tom was finished eating, he rose and disposed of their dishes then turned back to face his lover and inquired, "Ready to go to work?"
*
Tom tried to stifle a belch unsuccessfully and patted his stomach. With a small grin, he answered, "After that cure-all, I think I can handle just about anything."
*
Chakotay grinned back and said, "Even filling out the heavy-duty section of the application Neelix gave you?"
*
Tom peered up at him as if meeting a challenge. "Bring on the sex questions, Chakotay, and let's get to it."
*
Taking him at his word, Chakotay retrieved the padd from his bedroom and handed it over to Tom. "Here. You do the honors."

++++

Tom took the padd and spent a few moments looking over what had already been answered. He glanced up as Chakotay got himself a glass of iced tea and moved to sit on the sofa, shucking his boots and settling his feet on the coffee table.
*
His commanding officer and, at present, lover, didn't seem to be in much of a hurry so he took his time and rearranged the furniture so he could rest his feet on the other chair. Then he sat back and said, "We'll begin with the general questions, if that's all right with you."
*
Chakotay sipped his tea and smiled. "Whatever you want, Tom."
*
Sensing that there was more going on here than just the next step in the investigation, Tom wondered if Chakotay was planning to do the same thing he was. It wouldn't surprise him at all if they both decided to use this as a method of finding out more about each other.
*
Cautiously, Tom asked, "What is your preferred flavor of lubricant?"
*
"Strawberry."
*
Tom blinked at that answer and decided to skip around the questions a bit instead of asking them in order. Hoping Chakotay wouldn't notice, he moved to another subsection. "Are you into bondage?"
*
"Yes. Definitely."
*
Swallowing his surprise, Tom peered at Chakotay suspiciously and cleared his throat. "Are you interested in power exchanges and if so, do you see yourself as the Dom or the sub?"
*
"Yes and what do you think? The Dom, of course." Chakotay laced his fingers together across his stomach and looked very smug.
*
Tom frowned at Chakotay's expression but gamely continued with his questions. "What sort of restraints do you like best?"
*
"That depends on the situation. I find vinyl and metal to be the most stimulating."
*
Deciding to retreat to safer ground for a moment, Tom went back to the section labeled 'Toys'. "Of the following sex aids, which would you like to use? Dildos, Denebian pain pellets, vibrators, textured anal beads, free feathers, Andorian slings, melted wax, straight-edged knives, Bolian butt plugs, and/or a variety of clamps."
*
Chakotay sighed and took a deep swallow of his tea. "All of the above."
*
Tom felt himself go pale and all his tension returned. Oh god, what sort of pervert had he become involved with? Taking in a deep breath, he decided to forge ahead and find out the worst. "Do you favor any of the following: exhibitionism, voyeurism, fisting, sadism/masochism, cross-dressing, water sports, or scat?"
*
"Yes."
*
"Uh, 'yes' to which ones, Chakotay?" Tom looked over at Chakotay and literally broke out in a sweat anticipating his answer. After all the weird shit he'd had to put up with lately between Harry and Neelix and now the Doctor, all he wanted was a nice, normal lover. He didn't think he could handle someone who wanted to wear a latex evening gown and pee on him while he was hog-tied in front of an audience.
*
Chakotay's voice rose and he said with a teasing smile, "Yes to everything. Yes to every single thing on that questionnaire!"
*
Tom dropped the padd on the table and slapped his hands over his face. It was all just too much; too overpowering. Fighting for control, he said, "I can't do this, Chakotay. I'm sorry, but I just can't take it--all your fetishes.... For all I know, you'd get off on some body part of mine, like an elbow, and then you'd want to do strange things to it."
*
He removed his hands from his face and stood up. Ignoring his lover's puzzled expression, he resolutely stated, "I quit--I can't take any more weirdness right now." Before Chakotay could say a word, he walked out the door.
*
Borg sex, Talaxian pheromones, holographic sexual organs with the strength and durability of ten Vulcans, his best friend Harry being waited on hand and foot by identical twin slaves, and Chakotay turning out to be a pervert they'd have trouble accommodating even on Risa--all these concepts and images exploded across Tom's mindscape as he ran down the corridor. He mentally shouted at the universe, 'Why can't my life be simple, just for once?'

++++

Chakotay leaped to his feet then realized he was bootless. Fuck it. He decided to go after Tom anyway. He stepped outside his door and saw a flash of red in the distance. Tom was headed for the turbolift. He sprinted in that direction and as he turned the corner, he saw Torres just exiting the 'lift as Tom raced forward. "B'Elanna! Stop him!"
*
She raised a fist and Tom obligingly ran into it, face first. Paris was felled instantly.
*
As Chakotay slid to a stop on stockinged feet, he shouted, "I said 'stop him' not 'drop him'!"
*
"Same difference," she replied.
*
"I hope you didn't break anything," said Chakotay worriedly.
*
She flexed her fingers and looked at her knuckles. "No, I'm fine."
*
He glanced at her before dropping to his knees beside Tom. Annoyance and gratitude warred within his voice as he said, "I meant anything of his."
*
B'Elanna patted him on the head and said, "He'll be okay. Trust me. Tom has always had a glass jaw. Just take him home and wait a few minutes."
*
Chakotay looked at her sincere expression and relaxed a little. As he stood up and slung Tom over his shoulder, he turned to her and said, "Thanks."
*
"You're welcome. Anytime you need my help, just let me know." B'Elanna grinned wickedly in the way that only half-Klingons could before she walked away in the opposite direction.
*
Carefully carrying Tom back to his cabin, Chakotay hoped no one else had seen what had occurred. He was still a bit confused by Tom's reaction to the answers he gave for the sexiest part of the questionnaire. Had Tom left his sense of humor along with his patience in Sickbay this morning?
*
Settling his lover on the sofa, he went into the bedroom and grabbed the ugly orange blanket Tom had worn earlier. He tucked Tom in, replicated an ice-cloth for his face, and sat down on a chair which he pulled next to the couch. Staring at Tom and the padd from hell on the table, he wondered if maybe Tom had taken his answers seriously.
*
Tom had been pretty annoyed when they'd left Sickbay but the tomato soup and the hug had seemed to help. Perhaps there was more to the story than Tom had told him. He rose, grabbed the padd and his glass of now-watery iced tea and decided to rectify what he could.
*
While he waited for Tom to wake up, he answered the questions on the application as truthfully as possible. He finished his tea and set aside the glass determined to have something to show Tom that would hopefully make him feel better.
*
A few minutes later, Tom moaned. Chakotay set aside the padd and held Tom's hands away from the ice-cloth covering the left side of his face. Then he leaned down and kissed Tom very gently.

++++

Blue eyes stared up at Chakotay and a raspy voice asked, "What the fuck are you going to do to me now?"
*
Chakotay replied neutrally, "Nothing, unless you want to go back to Sickbay or allow me to get you a pain killer."
*
Tom tried to rise but the ice-cloth fell away and then the pain set in. His mind fought with itself. He couldn't recall why he was hurting but he thought it must be all Chakotay's fault. Damn the man. It just wasn't fair. He'd tried for years to get on his good side and now look what happened.
*
As he lost his train of thought, but retained his anger, he was vaguely aware of being scanned with a tricorder. Shortly afterward he felt a slight sting on his neck. The pain receded a little and his memory came back partially. He turned away from Chakotay's concern and grumbled, "So what twisted scenario did this play out for you? I'm surprised you didn't tie me down before you hit me."
*
"I didn't hit you. I'm sorry that you think I would." Chakotay sounded sad.
*
Tom heard rustling noises as Chakotay rose and moved the chair away from the sofa. He wondered what was going on but refused to look. He'd had a whole lot more than he'd bargained for today and was in no mood to make any compromises, besides, his face still hurt.
*
A gentle hand replaced the used ice-cloth with a fresh one and set a padd on his chest. "I'll leave this with you. Do what you want with it."
*
Tom shut his eyes tightly and tried not to think. He heard a door open and close and then all was silent. Coldness numbed his face while warmth from the blanket surrounded his body. The pain went away completely and he fell asleep gripping the padd.

++++

Chakotay left his quarters secure in the knowledge that Tom would be all right, physically anyway. He wondered what he should do next. Tom wasn't going to help him out or even be civil company for awhile. Depressed by this latest turn of events and, admitting that Tom had hurt his feelings, he headed toward his office, determined to spend the rest of the afternoon there.
*
To hell with his earlier plans for dealing with the investigation, he decided. He could pursue that the hard way now that he had a good lead. Too bad it was the Captain's boyfriend he'd have to lean on, but at least she wouldn't be out a bunch of rations after all.

++++

Tom woke up and felt much better with the exception of something hard stuck under his chin. Removing it and bringing it up to eye level, he saw it was the application that Neelix had given him. Oh no, not this crap again, he thought. This is what sent him over the edge earlier.
*
It wasn't enough that he'd put up with the Doctor's foibles all morning long, but this thing contained all of Chakotay's secret vices. Intent on throwing it aside and getting up and going home, the padd got caught on the edge of the ice-cloth as he sat up and he grabbed it before it fell. The display changed abruptly and he found himself reading a whole new set of answers.
*
Many minutes later Tom recalled that Chakotay had not taken him back to Sickbay when he didn't want to go. He also realized who had hit him and why. Upset with himself and confused as to how to make things right, he commed the only person who understood Chakotay enough to help him out.
*
"Paris to Torres."
