In Dreams, Part 10

By Britta

*
Chakotay took in the bright eyes and knowing smile of his lover. He was amused by the twists and turns Tom's mind made, and at warp speed, no less. Only Tom could come up with such stories, intended to divert and titillate him while they waited for the probe to send them information.
*
Just the thought of Chell having a prehensile dick made him laugh out loud...yet he wondered what Seven would do with it. Propped up on an elbow, his hand resting on Tom's chest, he listened to Tom spin more tales, interspersing bits of the truth throughout but when he heard of the myriad pleasures that Neelix and the Delaney sisters were ostensibly enjoying, he called a halt.
*
"Stop! Tom, please. No more. I can't take it...." His stomach hurt from laughing so much.
*
He rolled onto his back, holding his sides tightly and wheezing with fresh laughter as Tom ignored him and whispered naughty nothings about how the Captain and Tuvok relieved their tension using only the contact of their fingers together.
*
Chakotay laughed so hard he cried and finally, Tom shut up.
*
Sucking in great gulps of air and trying not to imagine B'Elanna taking Harry while he held a regenerator in his hand, Chakotay calmed himself. He pulled Tom down on top of him and held him tightly. "Thank you," he whispered.
*

++++

*
Tom smiled against Chakotay's cheek and replied, "You're welcome." Then he relaxed into Chakotay's arms.
*
He'd accomplished what he set out to do and was satisfied with the result. Chakotay was tension-free for the first time in a long time. It was a good thing. Chakotay had seemed to take all of this much harder than he, himself had.
*
His own erection had deflated as soon as he'd realized how tightly wound up Chakotay was. It really bothered him to see the older man that close to the edge. That he could help matters made him feel better.
*
Tom now linked his own well-being to that of Chakotay's. Whether or not it was the smart thing to do, he didn't know. It really didn't matter though, as he felt he had no choice. When Chakotay was happy, he was happy. End of story.
*
With that thought reverberating through his mind, he fell asleep.
*

++++

*
When Tom drifted off to sleep, Chakotay felt it immediately and closed his own eyes. He expected to follow him to their special place and before too long, he did.
*
He found himself sitting beneath his favorite tree and spied Tom off in the distance, walking around aimlessly. There were small patches of thick toolie fog that interfered with his vision but he could still see enough to know that Tom was naked.
*
Looking down at himself, he wasn't too surprised to find that he was nude as well. It seemed to be their natural state when they were here.
*
He rose and gave his tree a pat of appreciation. Then he walked off moving quietly toward Tom. Making his way through the wisps of fog, he saw Tom absently kicking clods of dirt around as if they were footballs set on tees.
*
"Tom?"
*
"Yeah, Coach?"
*
Coach? Chakotay became confused but asked anyway, "Why are we here?"
*
Running up to and kicking a large clod into the air, Tom watched it sail into the distance and after a moment, raised his arms in a strange formation and shouted, "Field Goal! We score and our team wins the game, the division and the championship...in overtime."
*
Completely befuddled, Chakotay just stood there and waited. He didn't know what he was supposed to do. Was this one of those things that Tom understood and he didn't or was it something that was part and parcel of this, their special place?
*
Before he could ask more questions, he watched as Tom picked up a large clod of dirt and slammed it into the ground. Then he did some sort of ritualistic dance around the remains, waving his arms and shouting a lot of nonsensical words.
*
Deciding that it would be better to put some distance between himself and Tom's rather violent behavior, Chakotay retreated silently and sat beneath his tree. He wondered what had gone wrong between them.
*

++++

*
Elated, Tom bounded over to Chakotay and said, "Did you see that?"
*
"See what?" Chakotay inquired cautiously.
*
Tom stopped smiling and thinking of football. He stood there looking at his lover until it dawned on him that they hadn't shared the same experience. Not wanting to make things worse, he shoved his feelings aside and sat down next to Chakotay. "Nothing important. How are you doing?" he asked.
*
"I'm fine. You?"
*
Tom heard the hesitancy and confusion in Chakotay's voice and wanted to reassure the man...his man. He stood up and proffered a hand. "Come with me, please?"
*
Chakotay nodded and rose, letting Tom lead him over to their green bed. They curled up together on the soft grass and Tom asked, "Better now?"
*
The Commander nodded and repeated his earlier question, "Why are we here, Tom?"
*
Sighing deeply, Tom replied, "I guess it's because I'm afraid to leave this place. It's where I first found you."
*
Chakotay frowned and gripped Tom more tightly. "What do you mean?"
*
Intense brown eyes stared at him in confusion and Tom hastily explained, "It was here that I first realized it was you that I'd been dreaming about."
*
"Oh."
*

++++

*
Chakotay now somehow understood more things than he expected to and he wondered if he would remember them when they left this place. He hoped he would.
*
Placing a soft kiss on Tom's lips, he tried to convey his understanding. He stroked Tom's hair gently and peered into worried blue eyes. "I don't want to lose you either and I'm just as scared as you are," Chakotay admitted.
*
Tom snuggled closer and sighed.
*
Chakotay watched as Tom's eyes closed and felt his breathing change. In moments, Tom was asleep but this time he didn't disappear into the fog that had gathered around them both.
*
Puzzled, yet pleasantly surprised, Chakotay gave in to his own fatigue and fell asleep, holding and being held by Tom in their green place.
*
He woke up a short time later somewhat disoriented. His arms were empty and he felt Tom's loss keenly. Where had he gone? Chakotay rolled out of bed, confused by Tom's disappearance in the waking world. Gods, would the man never quit leaving him?
*
Sitting on the edge of the bed and holding his face in his hands, he sighed. Was this another omen? A portent of the reality he would have to face once they'd left this area of space?
*
He almost had the strength to laugh at himself for believing that good things would come after their latest sojourn to the green place. Tears of anger and frustration threatened to appear but were waylaid by hands landing on his shoulders.
*
Tom then tilted his face upward and reacted strongly to his expression of sorrow. "What's wrong now?" he asked cautiously.
*
Chakotay inquired, "Where did you go...this time?"
*
"I had to take a leak!" Tom answered impatiently as he sat down next to Chakotay.
*
"Oh, okay."
*
Tom leaned over and gave him a kiss, then said, "I wish you had more faith in me."
*
Chakotay looked up and over at Tom and replied, "So do I. I also wish I had more faith in myself. I apologize, Tom, for jumping to conclusions."
*
"No problem." Tom grinned, "I have more than enough faith in you for the both of us."
*
Chakotay pulled Tom into a hug and kissed him, then said, "Good." Before he could say anything else, his badge chirped.
*
Janeway's voice spilled into their shared space, "Commander, please join us in the Briefing Room...and bring Lieutenant Paris with you."
*
"Yes, ma'am. We're on our way."
*
Chakotay kissed Tom again, this time as a promise, then they left his cabin.
*

++++

*
Tom was nervous. He worried about what they would find out. Would it be something so overwhelming that when its influence was gone, he'd lose everything? Steeling his soul against the worst, he slipped his hand into his lover's as they walked along the corridor.
*
He was determined to fight for Chakotay. He wanted to keep him.
*
They entered the Briefing Room to the stares of everyone else present. It appeared that they were the last to arrive. He felt Chakotay tense up again and sighed to himself.
*
The Captain nodded in their direction and they took their seats. She gestured toward Harry and Tuvok, then said, "Report. What have you been able to discern from the data the probe is sending us?"
*
Tom thought Janeway sounded somewhat curt and he wondered why. He watched her carefully and detected some strain between her and Tuvok when the Vulcan replied even more stiffly than usual, "Not enough to provide definitive answers to all of our questions at this time."
*
The Captain stood up and frowned. Pacing around the table, she stopped in front of the viewport and pinched the bridge of her nose for a second or two. Her shoulders finally relaxed a bit and she turned around to face the room.
*
"Ensign Kim, I would like your *opinion* of the data we have received so far. Please speak freely," she intoned.
*
Tom watched as Harry struggled with this conundrum. How was he going to satisfy all of his superior officers at once? Taking pity on a pale and tired-looking Harry, Tom jumped into the verbal fray with both feet hoping to lighten things a little. "Yeah! Harry, tell us what's out there."
*
Sending a grateful smile back to Tom, Harry looked at the Captain and said confidently, "It's as if this planet has a huge sign stuck on it saying 'Colonize Me'. That's it, in a nutshell."
*
Janeway blinked a few times and Tom felt Chakotay rejoin the living, in a manner of speaking, as he sensed his lover's attention focus on what Harry had just said.
*
The Captain stared at Tuvok for a moment then turned to Harry. "Please elucidate, Ensign Kim. I want as many details as you can provide."
*

++++

*
Chakotay perked up considerably at the words 'Colonize Me' and queried, "Why is it such a perfect planet for colonization?"
*
Kim leaned forward eagerly, and with a glance at a taciturn Tuvok, replied, "It's got everything anyone could want. Breathable air, potable water, edible plants and raw materials, including minerals of all kinds. There are no large predators that we can detect and the climate, though varied, is rather mild. If you can't find it there, you can easily make it."
*
"It sounds like paradise..." the Captain said wistfully as she sat down again.
*
Chakotay looked at her and wondered why she sounded so forlorn. He spared a glance for Tuvok and was mildly surprised to see him almost frowning. He gazed around the room and felt Tom squeeze his hand. He knew then that Tom was also aware of the strangeness of Janeway's reactions.
*
Harry licked his lips and continued, "It sure seems that way. Everything you need or want is readily available. There's also no evidence of nasty natural disasters such as floods, volcanic eruptions or other seismic activity. This planet appears to be very stable."
*
"It almost sounds too good to be true," Chakotay said evenly. "Isn't there anything that could be hazardous down there?"
*
Kim's excitement dimmed a little as he answered, "Nothing that we can detect from here."
*
Janeway rose and said decisively, "Then I think we should go and take a closer look."
*
Tuvok did not look pleased at all. Before he could formulate a calm, logical argument, Chakotay spoke up once more. "Captain?"
*
"Yes, Commander?"
*
"Before we get any closer to this system, I'd like to point out that so far its influence on many of us has been...extreme," he explained delicately.
*
The Captain's expression reflected her resolve as she replied, "I am well aware of that. However, it seems that the measures we have taken to guard against catastrophe have worked very well and, in fact, have provided the vast majority of us with the very things we needed."
*
He cleared his throat and gripped Tom's hand more tightly. "That is exactly my point. It seems to have facilitated a lot of 'togetherness', for want of a better word. My question is why? And now that we are all 'together' in one way or another, we are presented with a place that begs us to call it 'Home'. The whole scenario is too pat, too easy. It could be a trap of some kind."
*
Before Janeway could answer, Tuvok intoned, "I concur with the Commander. It would be prudent to use extreme caution if we approach this system. I hesitate to recommend doing so in any case. There is no overt reason why we should change course to pursue this." The Vulcan's face could have been set in stone.
*
The Captain glanced between her advisors and good friends then said, "I think there is a very good reason to pursue this. It's a mystery that we haven't encountered before. Better to engage it now and learn how to handle it while we have the luxury of doing so instead of finding ourselves in this kind of situation again only coupled with nasty aliens breathing down our necks."
*
Chakotay thought she had a point, although he personally wanted to avoid the small system with all his heart.
*
Tuvok looked thoughtful for a few moments then bowed to the logic of her argument. "If you insist on going, I recommend that we make the journey in stages. Allow the Doctor to check the crew for intensifying symptoms as we go."
*
Chakotay chimed in, "I agree. Our situation may change rapidly as we get closer to the source of the unusual feelings we've been experiencing."
*
Faced with the two most powerful men aboard ship agreeing on a course of action, there was little Janeway could do except rein in her curiosity and capitulate. "As you wish, gentlemen. We'll do it your way but rest assured, we will do it," she said, her less than mellifluous voice becoming even more discordant.
*
They nodded their acceptance and noted her determination. Chakotay knew there was no way they would get out of going. He and Tuvok locked eyes for moment and he knew they understood each other perfectly.
*
"Permission to have Lieutenant Paris and I plot a course for the system?" Chakotay inquired.
*
Janeway pursed her lips and stated, "Work together with the Doctor and inform me when you've finished."
*
"Of course, Captain." Chakotay relaxed a bit and looked over at Tom glad to see blue eyes light up with the promise of something to do regarding flying.
*
The Captain spoke again, "Commander Tuvok, I'd like to see you in my quarters. The rest of you are dismissed."
*
"Yes, ma'am," came a chorus of voices as most people left to go about their business.
*
Chakotay and Tom remained, as did the Doctor. Once everyone had gone, he turned to the physician and said, "Doctor, give us a couple of hours to work out a few alternate courses. Tom won't be flying them unless you say so, but since he's the best pilot we have, he should be the one who plots them."
*
The Doctor nodded and replied, "Very well. But be aware that I will run your plans by the other pilots just to be certain that they are viable."
*
"That's fine by me," Tom piped up. "I'm just damned glad to have something to do that will get my mind off things. It'll be good to know what the other pilots think, too. Kind of like a reality check for me." He grinned at the Doctor and was pleasantly surprised when the Doctor smiled back.
*
"All right, gentlemen. Let me know when you have completed your task," the Doctor said as he walked out of the Briefing Room.
*
Chakotay nodded silently, then turned his attention to Tom. He felt more centered than he had in days and what was even better was that he still loved Tom fiercely, even though he knew they weren't out of the woods yet. For some reason or another, he didn't care anymore whether or not it was real. It *felt* real and that, he decided, was all that counted.
*
He was in love and he was going to enjoy it. Besides, he wanted to give the Captain a little time to mellow out and maybe change her mind about pursuing their next course of action. He had bought them all some time with his suggestion and hoped that Tuvok could persuade her to do the right thing.
*
He rose and took Tom into his arms. Kissing him repeatedly, he mumbled, "Let's go home...and get to *work*."
*

++++

*
Tom was shaken down to his toes when Chakotay found himself again and had taken charge of things just like he used to. He looked forward to plotting several courses toward the small system that seemed to be calling to them like a siren's song.
*
What he hadn't counted on was the difference that having something to do would make to the Commander. Now, Chakotay was no longer out of control; he was being treated as a seasoned officer again. He was being relied upon and trusted--his judgement was not being questioned anymore and this alone made all the difference.
*
Tom felt Chakotay's confidence come surging back like a tsunami of emotion. He was bowled over by the power he sensed radiating from the dark-haired man who held him and kissed him hard.
*
It was all he could do to peel Chakotay off of himself and reply, "Work! We have work to do. Let's go do it, Commander."
*
"Oh, we will, Tom...we'll do it," Chakotay answered in a husky voice as he pulled Tom closer and squeezed his ass.
*
Tom squirmed and tried to regain his control. Dammit! He wanted to fly or at least plan on flying. What the hell had gotten into his lover that he couldn't keep his mind on what they were supposed to be doing?
*
Finally figuring out what Chakotay was up to, he decided to play along. Relaxing into the older man's arms, he rubbed up against him sinuously and purred, "Oh yeah...why don't you fuck me right here, right now. I've always wanted to do it on the Briefing Room table...." He licked an ear lobe for good measure and was gratified with response it generated.
*

++++

*
Chakotay snorted and responded, "I promise to fuck you here, but not right now this minute." He grinned and kissed Tom, then continued, "You can be a real shit, you know that?"
*
"Mm hmm. I know. So can you." Tom smirked and leaned down for another smooch. "Can we go home now...Jane?"
*
The Commander threw his arm around Tom so tightly he squeezed a small yelp out of the slightly taller man, then before Tom knew it, Chakotay smacked him on the ass, hard, and replied smoothly, "Of course, Tarzan. As you said, 'we have work to do'." He grinned at Tom's mocking countenance and led him out of the Briefing Room.
*
As they traversed the bridge, Tom leaned over and said softly, "I'm going to hold you to that promise."
*
Chakotay just nodded and answered with a quiet voice, "I never doubted it for a minute." His dark eyes then flashed at Tom meaningfully.
*
Tom's eyebrows rose and he clasped Chakotay's hand more tightly. They exchanged lustful looks and both of them wore identical expressions as they entered the turbolift.
*
Once inside the Commander's quarters, they turned their attention to the task at hand. They became lost in the intricacies of plotting a course that would provide them with all that they and the Doctor needed.
*
Numerous consultations with their CMO finally allowed them to come to a decision that the journey would be made in three stages. Depending on what the Doctor discovered at each stopping point would determine their next actions.
*
Once the Doctor was satisfied with the plan, all they had to do was wait until he ran it by the other pilots, then they would present it to the Captain. Chakotay sighed and wondered how long it would take.
*
He wanted to take Tom to bed. His emotions had evened out in some odd fashion and he felt a great need to make love to the man who had been chosen for him.
*
The realization that he hadn't consciously picked Tom for himself made him wonder why they were so good together. Still, he did believe that there was an Intelligence of some kind that ran the universe and if It decided to use these unusual means to bring them together, then who was he to argue?
*
Tom rose from the terminal and stretched. Chakotay watched as every sinew and muscle showed itself. His appetite increased in logarithmic proportions and he quickly lost the desire to control himself.
*
He stood up and grabbed Tom. Ignoring the shocked look crossing the younger man's face, he slowly and deliberately tore off his clothes.
*
As Tom began to speak, Chakotay brought Tom's mouth down onto his own and held him steady with a hard grip to the back of Tom's neck. With his other hand, he pulled Tom closer and then slowly maneuvered them into the bedroom.
*
Easing his lover down on the bed, he climbed over him and teased the naked flesh with his tongue. When Tom started to protest, Chakotay just shoved his fingers into the other man's mouth.
*
Licking and sucking his way around and over the light-skinned body, he brought Tom near to the point of no return. Feeling teeth gnawing on his fingers, he took pity and moved up to face his almost insensible lover.
*
Removing his hand from Tom's mouth, he kissed him lovingly, letting his tongue express his desire. He released Tom's lips and gazed into dilated blue eyes.
*
Tom ran his fingers through Chakotay's short hair and panted. One of Tom's hands moved lower and gripped his ass, pulling his still-clothed groin closer to rub over Tom's own. As Tom worked the clothing off of Chakotay, Tom gasped, "Why? Why are you doing this to me now?"
*
Chakotay smiled ferally and kissed Tom again and again. When he was naked and lying on top of his lover, he stroked Tom's face and between nips to sensitive regions, he responded, "'Jane' thought it was time to show 'Tarzan' who really wears the loincloth in the family."
*
Saying that, Chakotay kissed Tom again and then took him on a ride that no hanging vine could ever compete with.
*
